This is one of Mema's favorite cookie recipes. It came from my children's cookbook, and we made these all the time when I was growing up...These are really easy to make and so yummy that you may want to double the recipe!
2/3 c. shortening
1 egg
3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
4 tsp. milk
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl, soften shortening with a spoon. Mix sugar in thoroughly. Add egg. Beat until fluffy. Add vanilla and mix in well. Add milk. Mix in flour, baking powder, and salt. Add nuts. Drop by teaspoons on greased cookie sheet. Bake about 10 min. or until edges are slightly golden brown. Sprinkle sugar on top of warm cookies.
